Global Environment Fund Adds Sulanji Siwale to Africa Team

January 29, 2013 CHEVY CHASE, Md. — Global Environment Fund (GEF) announced today that Sulanji Siwale has joined the firm as a Managing Director based in Johannesburg, South Africa, as a member of the team that is executing GEF’s private equity investment program in Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Siwale has 18 years of investment experience across the continent of Africa. He joins GEF from the mid-market advisory firm Cedar Point Investment Group, where he was responsible for all aspects of deal origination and structuring.

Prior to Cedar Point, Mr. Siwale was with Freetel Capital in Sandton, where he oversaw private equity investments in mid-market companies. Prior to Freetel, Mr. Siwale served in operations as the Chief Financial Officer of wireless telecom operator Intercellular Nigeria, based in Lagos. In this role he was responsible for the management and oversight of all financial and investment planning, while leading a team of 35 employees.

From 1994 through 2001, Mr. Siwale held research and advisory positions with several leading Southern African investment banks and financial services companies.

Mr. Siwale holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science and Philosophy from Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia, Canada. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Aston University, Birmingham, UK, and is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI).
