Jonathan Adler, Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton

Jonathan Adler is a corporate partner based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Investment Management Group. His practice focuses on advising sponsors of private investment funds, including buyout, growth capital, energy, infrastructure and credit funds. In addition to his work with U.S. and European funds, Mr. Adler has also advised clients in establishing private equity funds, offices and joint ventures in various emerging markets, including Africa, India and South America. Mr. Adler’s recent experience includes acting for clients such as The Carlyle Group, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, Crescent Capital Group, International Finance Corporation and AMC, KKR, Maritime Finance Company, Morgan Stanley, Nephila Capital, and Trimaran Capital Partners.

Mr. Adler is ranked as a leading lawyer for private equity funds by Chambers USA (2015), where clients say he is “not only a skilled lawyer but a pragmatic problem solver.” He was named to Private Funds Management’s “30 Under 40”, which recognizes the top private equity funds lawyers under the age of 40.

Mr. Adler joined the firm in 2005. He received a J.D. magna cum laude from New York University in 2005, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, and a B.S. in Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University in 2002. Mr. Adler is admitted to the Bar in New York.

 

Salvador Almeida, Hamilton Lane

Salvador is responsible for leading business development in Brazil.Prior to joining Hamilton Lane in July 2014, Salvador was an Investment Manager at Espirito Santo Investment Bank in São Paulo, where he focused on origination, structuring and executing Debt & Equity Capital Markets and M&A transactions. Salvador began his career as an M&A analyst in Lisbon for Espirito Santo Investment Bank.

Salvador received a Master’s degree in Business Administration with focus in Corporate Finance and a B.A. from Nova School of Business and Economics, in Lisbon, Portugal. During university Salvador studied at PUC in Rio de Janeiro, frequented a Finance Course at LSE in London and was an Intern at ESCOM Mining Company in Angola.

 

Alexei Bonamin, Partner, TozziniFreire Advogados

With 18 years of experience in Capital Markets and Banking & Finance, Alexei has expertise in public offerings, international issues, structured finance transactions, securitization, finance, investment funds, financial compliance, derivatives and regulation of financial institutions. Alexei is Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) and Publications Officer of the International Bar Association (IBA) Capital Markets Forum. He holds LL.M. degree in Banking and Finance from The London School of Economics and Political Science, England, 2002, and graduate of the Law School of Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, 1999.

 

 

João Busin, Partner, TozziniFreire Advogados

With over 10 years of practice in the Corporate/M&A area, João has been assisting local and foreign investors in transactions involving many different sectors. With experience in advising Private Equity & Venture Capital players, he is recognized for his ability to combine technical expertise and deep industry knowledge. João worked as foreign associate with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP London office from 2011 to 2012. João is specialized in Business Management from Business School São Paulo, in 2009, and graduate of the Law School of Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP), in 2002.

 

 

Bernardo Carvalho, Partner, Gávea

Joined Gávea in January 2005, becoming a Partner in December 2007. He is currently head of investor relations and business development offshore, after focusing earlier on economics research, portfolio management for Brazil and investor relations onshore. He started his career at Banco Icatu (2001-02) and later joined Opus Investimentos, where was responsible for macroeconomic analysis (2004). Bernardo holds a M.Sc. and a B.Sc. Degrees in Economics from the Catholic University (PUC-RJ) in Rio de Janeiro (1999-2005).

 

 

Peter Furci, Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton

Peter Furci is a tax partner and a member of the firm’s Private Equity, Latin America and Family Enterprise Groups. He concentrates on the tax aspects of a wide range of corporate transactions, including domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, financings and debt and equity securities offerings by U.S. and non-U.S. issuers. He also practices extensively in the area of private investment funds, including emerging markets, hedge, mezzanine, distressed debt, infrastructure and real estate funds. Mr. Furci is listed as a leading tax lawyer by Chambers USA (2012-2015), where he is regarded as “an expert and pragmatic lawyer” and clients note that he “understands the overall commercial picture” and his “experience and knowledge are not matched by many other individuals; he always seeks to add value and insight to a transaction, and really knows how to drive the process forward.” Mr. Furci is also recognized by The Legal 500 US (2011-2015), where sources note he is “top-notch” and “simply the best tax lawyer I have ever worked with.” Most recently, Law360 named Mr. Furci a “Law360 MVP” in 2015, honoring him for his exceptional work in tax.

Mr. Furci joined Debevoise in 1995 and became a partner in 2003. He received his B.A. cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1992 and his J.D. magna cum laude from New York University in 1995, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Tax Law Review. Mr. Furci also received his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1999.

Marcelo Hallack, Partner, BTG Pactual

Marcelo Hallack is a Partner of BTG Pactual and Head of the Private Equity Division. Marcelo joined BTG Pactual in 2008 and is a Board Member of Estapar, CCRR, B&A and UOL. Prior to joining BTG Pactual, Marcelo worked in private equity for Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (New York) from 2006 to 2008 focusing on media & telecom and consumer products & services. Marcelo worked in Goldman Sachs´ Investment Banking Division (New York) from 2003 to 2006 focusing on M&A and capital markets transactions in the telecom, media & technology space. Marcelo holds a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University.

 

 

Matthew W. Howard, Counsel, Debevoise & Plimpton

Matthew W. Howard is a corporate counsel and a member of the firm’s Private Equity Funds and Investment Management Groups. His practice focuses on advising sponsors of open- and closed-ended private investment funds, co-investment funds and joint ventures that pursue a variety of investment strategies. In addition to his work with U.S.-focused funds, Mr. Howard has advised sponsors of funds targeting Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Mr. Howard’s recent experience includes acting for clients such as Blackstone Alternative Asset Management, The Carlyle Group, D.E. Shaw, Gávea Investimentos, Intellectual Ventures, the International Finance Corporation and IFC AMC, Odyssey Investment Partners, P2 Capital, Tenaska and Vinci Partners.

Mr. Howard joined Debevoise in 2012. Mr. Howard received a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2004, where he was an Articles Editor for the Law Review and Co-Chair of the Law Review’s Diversity Committee. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Swarthmore College in 1999.

 

Luke Moderhack, Senior Research Analyst, EMPEA

Luke Moderhack is a Senior Research Analyst at EMPEA, where he covers CEE/CIS and Latin America. As an undergraduate, he conducted research on the Saarland’s post-WWI currency transition and studied German in Munich. Luke graduated from Northwestern University in 2014 with a B.A. with Honors in History and a minor in Business Institutions.

 

 

 

Priscila RodriguesPartner, Bozano Investimentos

Mrs. Rodrigues is a senior partner responsible for the consumer, retail and services private equity practice at Bozano Investimentos. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School with concentration in Private Equity and Real Estate. Prior to joining Bozano Investimentos, Mrs. Rodrigues worked at Plural Capital in the private equity practice, at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York advising financial sponsors in their investments in the US, and at Pacific Advisors in São Paulo investing in private equity and venture capital transactions. Mrs. Rodrigues serves as a board member for Villa Germania, participates in Estapar’s advisory committees, and has served as board member for Hortifruti.

 

Shannon Stroud, Vice President Programs and Business Development, EMPEA

As EMPEA’s Vice President, Programs and Business Development, Shannon Stroud manages EMPEA’s portfolio of programs and revenue-generating activities including  EMPEA’s conference, webcast and education initiatives. In addition to overall business, program and content development, Shannon manages all of the associated sponsorship relationships and underlying event partnerships, and provides budgetary management and financial oversight for these efforts.

Prior to EMPEA, Shannon worked as a Principal with private-equity investment firm Pine Creek Partners identifying, reviewing and executing management buyouts and recapitalizations across a variety of industries. She also provided guidance and support to portfolio companies and while there served on the board of Drew Foam Companies Inc. Prior to Pine Creek Partners, she worked with CapitalSource Finance LLC where she originated, analyzed, underwrote and structured senior secured and unsecured debt financings, mezzanine capital and equity co-invests within the specialty finance and security industries. Prior to joining CapitalSource in 2003, Shannon worked with Fannie Mae, Microstrategy and Arthur Andersen's Business Consulting Group.

Shannon earned an MBA from Georgetown's McDonough School of Business and graduated cum laude from the University of Richmond where she received a B.A. in Economics and International Studies with a concentration in International Economics and a minor in Journalism and French.
